The Village Center
Post Office
Pictured: This was the Marstons Mills Post Office and a candy store, run by Hattie Mecarta from 1886 to 1919.
History: When Hattie's husband Dennis died, she took on the job as Postmaster for the village and had this house built.
Today: This structure currently houses the office of the Marstons Mills Chiropractic at 86 Route 149.
Source: This photo is from a postcard titled "Postoffice, Marstons Mills, Mass" and it was postally used.
It was sent to "Mrs Harriet Mecarta, Marstons Mills Mass" postmarked May 21, 1933 at Laconia, NH.
There is no correspondence on the postcard. An annotation on the back says: "Mrs Mecarta appointed
Postmaster Feb.. 4, 1886. Resigned from PO on Oct 10, 1919".
Postcard is number 44 by the Eastern Illustrating Company, Belfast, ME.
